When Should I Call My Insurance Company?

You can call your insurance company whenever you want really. Though insurance companies

usually won’t send out a field adjuster to do an inspection unless a claim has been filed. If you make

them aware that you are unsure if storm damage has affected your home, then most claims agents

will probably recommend you have a roofing contractor do a free inspection first before you file a claim.

This allows you to find out if your home has been damaged or not without having to file a claim,

with the side benefit of not having a claim counted against you by your home insurance. If you know

for a fact that your home has storm damage, but you haven’t filed a claim before and you want to hire

a contractor only after the claim is approved or if you have filed a claim before and you want to get a

contractor you know involved right from the get go, either way there is no wrong answer;

whatever course of action you take is totally up to you.
